Microsoft shipped 40-plus updates to Copilot across its 365 suite in July 2026. The headline feature is Copilot Cowork going generally available, plus interface redesigns, better document navigation, and AI content watermarking.

The biggest move: users can now select Claude as a model option in Copilot Chat. They can choose Claude for complex analysis, document understanding, and structured content generation, then switch back to Microsoft’s default models for everyday tasks. Real choice, not marketing.

Claude Integration Meaning

Microsoft didn’t build Claude. It licensed the integration. This signals confidence in Anthropic’s model and acknowledgment that no single company makes the best AI for every task.

Users aren’t forced to pick one model at signup. They pick per task. That’s the competitive move: let the best model win based on what you’re trying to do.

Watermarking and Transparency

Microsoft is tagging AI-generated content. Videos and audio now carry watermarks showing they were created or altered by AI in Microsoft 365. This is transparency work, not protection—watermarks can be stripped. But the intent is clear: label AI work as AI work.

Copilot Cowork Release

Copilot Cowork moves from preview to general availability. It’s the agent that works across your documents, emails, and meetings to surface context and draft responses. Interface redesigns make switching between Chat and Cowork smoother.

Agent Builder also got updates. Customers can now submit custom agents to the Agent Store for discovery by colleagues.

Business SKUs

Microsoft 365 Business with Copilot becomes generally available July 1. Small businesses now have an official SKU that bundles Office apps with Copilot access. Pricing and deployment are clarified.
