Mass jailbreaks have created a severe security crisis in Nepal. Over 12,500 prisoners remain at large after escaping during violent anti-government protests. The events have triggered a major manhunt and heightened border security.

    Nepal prison break

Nepal’s police force is struggling to restore order. The jailbreaks occurred as Gen Z demonstrators clashed with authorities over corruption and a social media ban. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli resigned amidst the widespread unrest.

India Tightens Border Security to Apprehend Fugitives

Indian security forces are on high alert. They have intensified patrols along the 1,751-km border with Nepal. The goal is to prevent escaped inmates from crossing into India.

The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) is leading the effort. This border force has increased checks at all entry points. They are focusing on verifying identity documents, which most escapees lack.

According to Agence France-Presse, about 60 individuals have been apprehended so far. They were captured along border points in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal. Suspected escapees are being handed over to local police for questioning.

Nepal Police Gradually Resume Operations After Violent Protests

Nepal’s authorities are working to regain control. Police stations across the Kathmandu Valley are reopening after being vandalized or burned. Dozens of posts were attacked during the peak of the demonstrations.

Many police personnel had sought shelter in army barracks for safety. The Nepali Army has since taken charge of national security to restore calm. Local communities are now assisting with repair efforts to rebuild damaged infrastructure.

The full scale of the damage is still being assessed. Officials confirm that Nepal Police and Armed Police Force personnel are returning to their posts. A gradual return to normal policing operations is underway.

The hunt for over 12,500 escaped prisoners continues to be Nepal’s top priority. This massive Nepal prison break represents one of the country’s most significant security challenges in recent history. International cooperation remains crucial for recapturing the fugitives.
