ZOOMBANGLA DESK: K. G. Mustafa, the legendary designer of country’s first currency notes, passed away early in the morning on Friday. He was 80 years old.
Suffering from heart and lung complications, the renowned artist breathed his last at 3am while undergoing treatment at the capital’s Holy Family Hospital.
He left behind his wife, two sons and a daughter, four grandchildren, relatives and countless well-wishers to mourn his death.
His first Namaz-e-Janaza was held after Jum’ah prayer at East Rampura mosque and second Namaz-e-Janaza will be held after Asr prayer at his village home in Madaripur district. He will be buried next to his parents grave at the family graveyard in Madaripur after the second Namaz-e-Janaza.
A pioneer in graphic design, K. G. Mustafa was born in 1943 in Madaripur. Apart from designing the first currency, he also designed country’s first coins and postal stamps.
A graduate from Dhaka University’s Institute of Fine Arts, K. G. Mustafa was appointed as a designer for Pakistan’s security printing press in Karachi, where he worked until the end of 1967. Later he moved to Bangladesh and worked for the country. He made immense contribution towards the country’s fine arts with paint and brush.
