OnePlus 16 Leaks Suggest Major Camera Upgrade Ahead of Expected October Debut

The OnePlus Nord 6 is expected to be unveiled today, but attention has already shifted to what may come next from the company’s flagship line. Early details surrounding the OnePlus 16 have begun circulating, pointing to a device that could bring noticeable changes, particularly in photography hardware.

At this stage, none of the information has been confirmed by the company, and the picture remains incomplete. Still, the volume and consistency of recent leaks suggest that development is well underway, with a tentative launch window being discussed for late October in China.

One of the more striking claims relates to the camera system. According to a post by tipster Smart Pikachu on Weibo, the OnePlus 16 may include a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera. If accurate, this would represent a substantial shift from the 50-megapixel telephoto sensor used in the OnePlus 15.

The same leak indicates that OnePlus could adopt Samsung’s HP5 sensor for this setup. The sensor has reportedly appeared in devices such as the Realme 16 Pro and the Realme GT 8 Pro, suggesting that it is already being tested in high-end mobile photography.

If implemented as described, the upgrade could improve long-range zoom capabilities, offering sharper detail and more usable images at higher magnifications. Periscope lenses have become an increasingly important feature in flagship smartphones, and this move would align OnePlus more closely with competitors that have pushed aggressively in this area.

Other aspects of the device are also beginning to take shape through leaks. The OnePlus 16 is expected to feature a slimmer design, with display bezels possibly reduced to under 1mm. Such a change would place emphasis on screen immersion, though the practical impact will depend on execution.

On the performance side, the device is rumoured to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipset, indicating a routine but necessary upgrade in line with annual flagship cycles.

Battery capacity is another area where expectations are being raised. Reports suggest a 9000mAh unit, which, if accurate, would mark a significant increase compared to typical flagship standards.
