PS5 Pro Beta Makes Enhanced PSSR the Default for Supported Games

By Abul KalamAugust 30, 20262 Mins Read

The ps5 pro search is tied to a beta firmware update that changes how Sony’s enhanced PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, or PSSR, is applied on supported games. TechRadar reported that the beta automatically enables the “Enhance PSSR Image Quality” option for PS5 Pro players. The report said the setting can still be turned off, making this a software-testing change rather than a permanent instruction for every owner.

PSSR is Sony’s image-reconstruction technology for improving the presentation of games at higher output resolutions. The official PlayStation Blog has explained the system through game-specific updates, including a June announcement for DOOM: The Dark Ages. That post said the game’s Update 4 would use an advanced version of PSSR on PS5 Pro, with the aim of delivering a sharper and steadier image during fast movement.

The beta update matters because it broadens the discussion beyond one game. TechRadar said enhanced PSSR would be used even in games that previously supported an earlier version, subject to the beta’s settings and compatibility. The description does not mean that every title receives the same visual result. Performance, supported modes and the developer’s implementation can differ from one game to another.

Players taking part in a beta should also keep the testing status in mind. Beta software can change before a public release, and a setting that is enabled by default in a test build is not the same as a final system-wide policy. The checked reporting identifies the update as a beta feature, so the date of general availability is not stated here.

Sony’s own technical explanations provide useful context for the feature’s purpose. In its DOOM announcement, the company and id Software described the benefit in terms of image stability while the player is sprinting, turning, parrying and dealing with on-screen effects. That is a game-specific explanation, not a promise that PSSR removes every artifact or produces the same result as native rendering in every scene.

For readers following ps5 pro, the verified update is a beta firmware change that enables enhanced PSSR image quality by default for supported games, while retaining a switch for users who prefer another setting. The sources do not establish a final rollout date or a universal improvement across the entire library. Owners should follow Sony’s beta notes and use the console’s own settings when evaluating the change.
