INTERNATIONAL DESK: A Pakistani drone with a suspected contraband item was recovered in a joint operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district on Tuesday, said officials.
The BSF said that on Tuesday around 11:28 am it intercepted the movement of a suspected drone near Village Wan in the district of Tarn Taran.
“As per the laid down drill, BSF troops immediately reacted to intercept the drone,” said a statement issued by the BSF.
“Further, a joint search operation with Punjab Police was carried out. During the search at about 12:15 pm, a drone in broken condition along with one packet of suspected contraband items (Gross weight – 420 gm) wrapped with yellow adhesive tape, attached with a ring for hanging it with the drone and one battery (5000 mAH) of the drone was recovered from the farming field adjacent to Village – Wan, District – Tarn Taran,” the statement added.
The BSF officials said that the recovered drone is a Quadcopter of model DJI Mavic 3 Classic.
There have been many Pakistani drones that crossed the border and entered India’s Punjab and have been recovered by BSF.
Last Sunday, The BSF and Punjab Police in a joint operation recovered a Pakistani drone in broken condition from Punjab’s Ferozepur.
“On the night of October 21, 2023, at 2:15 am, the forward-deployed BSF troops intercepted the movement of a drone near Village Sanke, district Ferozepur. Further, on 22nd October 2023, a search operation with Punjab Police was carried – out behind the Border fence,” BSF said.
The drones are increasingly used by the drug mafia to drop drugs into the border districts from Pakistan.
Last Sunday, the Border Security Force along with Punjab police in a joint operation recovered multiple packets of heroin and a drone battery from a paddy field near the Tarn Taran border in Punjab.
According to a release by BSF on Sunday, during the morning hours of the day, on specific information regarding the presence of a consignment of contraband items, a Joint Search Operation was launched by BSF and Punjab Police on the outskirts of Village – Mastgarh, District – Tarn Taran.
During the search operation, at about 8:55 am, 3 packets of Heroin (gross weight–approximately 2.916 kg) and a drone battery (5935 mAh) were recovered from a paddy field, the release said.
Earlier on October 20, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police, during a joint operation, recovered a drone in broken condition in Marimegha village in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district.
During the search operation, at about 1:00 pm, a drone in broken condition was recovered.
The recovered drone was a quadcopter of the DJI Matrice 300 RTK model, which is ‘Made in China’, BSF stated. (ANI)
