Xiaomi has confirmed that a new Redmi smartphone, the K90 Max, is set to debut later this month, adding a layer of clarity to weeks of quiet speculation around the companyâs next high-performance device.

The confirmation came directly from Lu Weibing, who shared details on Weibo, though he stopped short of explaining where the device sits within the broader Redmi lineup. It remains unclear whether the K90 Max is a rebranded version of the widely anticipated K90 Ultra or a separate model altogether.
What Lu did emphasize was the phoneâs thermal design. The K90 Max will include an active cooling fan, something still relatively uncommon in mainstream smartphones. According to the company, the fan features a larger diameter than comparable solutions currently on the market, pushing air intake up to 0.42 cubic feet per minute. Lu claimed this represents a 30 percent increase over competing devices.
Despite the added mechanical component, Xiaomi says it has kept noise levels under control. The fan operates across three speed settings, with sound output measured at as low as 32 decibels on its lowest setting. The company did not elaborate on how noise scales at higher speeds, though it noted that cooling performance improves significantly under load.
The device is also positioned as durable. Xiaomi says the K90 Max will carry IP66, IP68, and IP69 certifications, indicating resistance to dust and varying degrees of water exposure. That combination is notable given the inclusion of an internal fan, which typically introduces additional challenges in sealing a device.
Ahead of the official unveiling, Xiaomi has opened early reservations in China. Interested buyers can place a deposit of CNY 9.9, roughly $1.44, to secure a unit and receive what the company describes as a âmystery gift packageâ valued at CNY 3,600 upon release.
For now, key details remain limited. Specifications beyond the cooling system and durability ratings have not been disclosed, and Xiaomi has indicated that further information will be shared in the days leading up to launch.

The announcement, brief as it is, suggests Xiaomi is continuing to experiment with hardware differentiation in a crowded segment, though the full picture will only emerge once the device is formally introduced.
