Xiaomiâs Redmi brand is preparing to introduce a Special Edition variant of its Note 15 5G in India, offering what appears to be a cosmetic refresh rather than a new device altogether. The company has confirmed an April 2 launch date, while keeping most specifications and branding details under wraps.

What has been shown, however, is the design. A brief teaser reveals a handset finished in a deep red faux-leather rear panel, complemented by a gold-toned frame. The look stands apart from the standard models currently in the market, suggesting a focus on visual distinction rather than hardware changes.
The finish closely resembles the New Year Cherry Red edition that Redmi previously released in China. Based on that similarity, the upcoming Special Edition for India is likely a rebranded version of the same device, adapted for the local market without major alterations to its core hardware.

If that holds true, the phone will carry forward the same specifications as the regular Redmi Note 15 5G. That includes a 6.77-inch AMOLED display and a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor. Camera hardware is also expected to remain unchanged, with a 108-megapixel primary sensor on the rear alongside a secondary camera, and a 20-megapixel front-facing unit.
Battery capacity is unlikely to shift either. The device is expected to include a 5,520mAh battery with support for 45W fast charging, in line with the standard modelâs configuration.
The Special Edition variant will be sold through Flipkart, continuing Redmiâs established online distribution strategy in India. Pricing has not been formally announced for this version, though the global model currently lists at around âš24,998 for the 256GB variant with 8GB RAM.
The announcement arrives alongside another scheduled launch from Xiaomi India, with the Redmi 15A expected to be introduced a day earlier, on March 27. That timing places the Special Edition release within a broader rollout cycle for the brand in the country.

For now, the focus remains on design. The red and gold combination marks a clear departure from the more restrained finishes typically seen in the series, even if the device itself remains familiar beneath the surface.
