How the New Digital Key Technology Works
The integration uses Ultra Wideband technology. This allows for secure, passive entry. You can keep your phone in your pocket as you walk up to the vehicle.Express Mode will be supported. You do not need to wake your iPhone or use Face ID. The car unlocks automatically when you are near.A critical feature addresses dead phone batteries. The Power Reserve function lets you use the digital key for up to five hours after your iPhone shuts down. This provides a reliable backup.

You can share digital keys easily. The system allows sharing with up to eight other people. You can send a key via AirDrop or popular messaging apps like WhatsAppThere is a significant limitation, however. First-generation Rivian vehicles are not supported. This includes R1S and R1T models built through the 2024 model year.Rivian continues its stance against Apple CarPlay. The company offers its own integrated Apple Music app. This requires a Connect+ subscription service.
