Samsung Galaxy Hotspots Set for Major Speed and Compatibility Upgrade

Samsung’s flagship phones may soon get a significant Wi-Fi sharing upgrade. A new dual-band mobile hotspot option has been discovered in a test version of Android. This feature would allow devices to broadcast on both 2.4GHz and 6GHz frequencies simultaneously.

Samsung Galaxy 6GHz hotspot

This development was first spotted in the latest Android Canary build. According to Android Authority, this new setting aims to solve the classic trade-off between compatibility and performance. It promises to support older gadgets and deliver top speeds to new ones.

How the New Band Option Improves User Experience

Currently, Samsung phones offer four hotspot frequency choices. Users can select 2.4GHz for wide compatibility, 5GHz for faster speeds, or mixed modes. The new 2.4GHz and 6GHz combination would be a superior mixed mode.

The 2.4GHz band ensures that all older smart home gadgets and phones can connect. The 6GHz band, known as Wi-Fi 6E, offers vastly faster speeds and less interference. This gives users the best of both worlds without needing to switch settings manually.

The Future of Mobile Connectivity on Galaxy Devices

This move aligns Samsung with upcoming stock Android features. The company’s One UI software typically incorporates such core Android enhancements. A future One UI update is the most likely delivery method for this new capability.

For consumers, it means a more powerful and flexible personal internet hub. You could connect a vintage smart plug and a cutting-edge laptop to the same hotspot. Both devices would get an optimal connection tailored to their abilities.

The introduction of a 2.4GHz and 6GHz dual-band Samsung Galaxy 6GHz hotspot represents a clear step forward in mobile connectivity. This update will future-proof your phone’s sharing capabilities.

Info at your fingertips

What is the advantage of a 6GHz hotspot band?

The 6GHz band offers significantly faster data speeds and reduced network congestion. It is ideal for high-bandwidth activities like 4K streaming and large file transfers. Fewer devices currently use this frequency, which minimizes interference.

Will older devices be able to connect to a 6GHz hotspot?

No, older devices cannot connect to a 6GHz signal. They require specific Wi-Fi 6E hardware to access this frequency band. This is why the new dual-band option pairs 6GHz with the universal 2.4GHz band for backward compatibility.

Which Samsung phones might get this new feature?

The feature is expected to come to future flagship models like the Galaxy S25 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold series. It will likely require a software update to a new version of Samsung’s One UI interface. The rollout may depend on regional hardware support.

How does this compare to current hotspot options?

It adds a new, high-performance tier to the existing choices. Current mixed modes like “2.4GHz & 5GHz” provide a balance. The new “2.4GHz & 6GHz” option offers that balance but with a much higher performance ceiling.

Why don’t hotspots broadcast all three bands at once?

Broadcasting on 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz simultaneously is likely a hardware limitation. No smartphone manufacturer currently offers this triple-band functionality for its mobile hotspot feature. It may also impact battery life significantly.
