India’s Supreme Court dismissed a petition challenging Shah Rukh Khan’s home renovation on Tuesday, clearing the way for the actor and his wife Gauri Khan to continue work on their iconic Bandra residence, Mannat. The bench reiterated that Mannat is privately owned property and that renovations undertaken in compliance with law do not warrant court intervention.

The Challenge and the Dismissal
Mumbai-based activist Santosh Daundkar had filed the petition in September 2025, arguing that the coastal regulation zone (CRZ) clearance for the renovation failed to comply with environmental regulations. The petitioner claimed statutory approvals required for the project had not been properly followed.
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) rejected the petition in September 2025, and the Supreme Court upheld that decision on Tuesday. The bench raised doubts about the credibility of the petition itself, signaling the court saw little merit in the challenge.
About Mannat
Mannat sits on Mumbai’s upscale Bandra seafront overlooking the Arabian Sea. It stands among the country’s most recognizable celebrity homes. The residence has been closely associated with Shah Rukh Khan for decades. The renovation project aimed to upgrade and modernize the property while maintaining its character.
What This Means
The Supreme Court’s decision ends legal uncertainty around the project. It affirms that private property owners have the right to renovate and upgrade their homes in accordance with environmental and municipal regulations, without facing repeated legal challenges from activists.
For Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan, the ruling clears the path forward for their renovation plans at one of Bollywood‘s most storied addresses.
