Police in Bangladesh are under growing pressure after the killing of student leader Sharif Osman Hadi on December 12 in Dhaka. He was shot at close range by attackers on a motorcycle. He died six days later on December 18. His death sparked large protests across the country. The case is now a major political issue.

Investigators say they have found a large money trail linked to the prime suspect. They also admit they still do not know where he is. The search has raised fresh questions about state security and political unrest in Bangladesh.

Sharif Osman Hadi Investigation Shows Major Financial Trail

Bangladesh’s Criminal Investigation Department says it has seized nearly 67 lakh Bangladeshi Taka from bank accounts tied to prime suspect Faisal Karim Masud. According to Reuters, officials also found a wider network worth around 127 crore Taka linked to him. Cheque books and uncashed cheques worth close to 200 crore Taka were recovered during raids.

Investigators say these transactions took place shortly before the shooting. They believe the money may be linked to the planning of the attack. But they say they still cannot confirm this fully.

Officials also say they do not know if Masud has fled the country. A travel ban and lookout notice are in place, but security forces say they have no confirmation of his movements. This has added stress to the case and public anger has grown.

Hadi was a known activist linked to last year’s student uprising. He was shot while traveling in a battery-powered rickshaw in Dhaka’s Bijoynagar area. Two men on a motorcycle fired at him. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later flown to Singapore. He died on December 18 from severe brain injuries.

Public Pressure Grows as Government Faces Demands for Justice

Protests spread across Dhaka and other cities after news of his death. Groups gathered at Shahbagh and called for the arrest of all suspects. They also demanded transparency from the interim government.

The group Inquilab Mancha, which Hadi helped lead, warned the government of a mass movement if arrests are not made. They said they issued a 24-hour deadline that passed without action. They now plan more marches and say they will decide whether to continue supporting the current administration.

The interim government of Muhammad Yunus now faces public pressure and rising anger. Many say the government must act fast or face more unrest. The case is now seen as a major test of its ability to maintain order and trust.

The killing of Sharif Osman Hadi remains a central national issue. The investigation continues, but the public wants fast justice. The main keyword “Sharif Osman Hadi” will likely stay in focus as the case develops.
