Sheinelle Jones has returned to the “Today” show for the first time since the death of her husband, Uche Ojeh. She spoke on Friday in an emotional interview with Savannah Guthrie. Jones, 47, described her grief as a “beautiful nightmare.”

Ojeh died in May at the age of 45 after battling brain cancer. The couple had been married since 2007 and shared three children. His passing left a deep impact on Jones, her family, and her colleagues at NBC.

Sheinelle Jones Opens Up About Her Loss

In her first public interview since the tragedy, Jones reflected on her journey with her late husband. She recalled their early years as college sweethearts and the final months they spent together in a New York hospital.

She described how the nurses would call them “lovebirds” as they held hands during his treatment. “It felt scary. It felt divine. It felt bigger than us,” she said. According to NBC, she called the experience both heartbreaking and meaningful.

Ojeh was known for his active lifestyle, competing in triathlons and raising his children with passion and care. Watching his health decline, Jones admitted, was a “nightmare,” but she also found moments of beauty in their shared strength.

The Road Back to ‘Today’

Jones had been away from the “Today” show since late 2024, citing a private family health matter. Guthrie later confirmed Ojeh’s death on air in May 2025, delivering the news through tears.

Friday marked Jones’ official return to the NBC stage. She said her comeback was a step forward for her and her children as they continue to heal. Guthrie described the interview as “deeply personal” and praised her colleague’s strength.

At Ojeh’s funeral in May, Jones was joined by Guthrie, Al Roker, Hoda Kotb, Craig Melvin, Jenna Bush Hager, and other NBC co-hosts. The service at Riverside Church in New York was attended by family, friends, and colleagues.

Moving Forward With Strength

Jones and Ojeh would have celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary on September 1. They shared three children: Kaylin, 16, and twins Clara and Uche, 13.

She said her focus now is on her children and finding resilience in their daily lives. Her message on “Today” was one of hope — encouraging others facing personal battles to find strength even in loss.

Sheinelle Jones has reminded viewers that grief can hold both sorrow and beauty. Her story continues to resonate with fans of the “Today” show and beyond.
