INTERNATIONAL DESK: Celebrating more women who have found strength and resilience in following their passion, we bring you a story of a forty-five-year-old single mother who has found her passion in pet grooming. Finding purpose in starting the first-ever pet grooming service, she said has helped her overcome challenges and achieve her goals.
This is Chuki Gyaltshen, a mother of two. She started the pet grooming service in the capital some five years ago. Chuki says she grooms about fifteen dogs a month. She said there are times when her aggressive customers bite her but it is her passion that keeps her moving forward.
“My brother gave me this dog. I started watching YouTube videos to groom her properly. Then that’s how I learned to groom pets of my relatives, family, and friends, and one time I was grooming for Karma Pharmacy’s owner’s dog, he offered me this place and I took it.”
Chuki dropped out of school at the age of eighteen when she could not qualify for higher grades after class eight. Two years later, she got married to her children’s father.
However, it did not last long. She spent almost a decade working in a café in Thimphu. She said despite the struggles, her optimistic attitude kept her strong and resilient.
“I would advise all single moms to be positive, and the most important is concentration. No matter what happens focus a lot on your children, give the best, and teach them all good things. His Majesty’s recent speech on trying to give in best in everything one does has inspired and helped me a lot.”
In pursuit of living, Chuki has discovered her passion which brings her happiness. Similarly, she encourages women to follow their passion as it helps them overcome any struggles in life. (TBL)
