Sony announced the a7R VI in May 2026, the latest flagship high-resolution mirrorless camera. The new model features a partially stacked 67MP sensor, significantly increasing resolution while maintaining responsive autofocus and continuous shooting performance.

The a7R VI targets professional photographers and studios requiring maximum resolution for studio work, fashion, and large-format printing. The increased megapixel count enables cropping flexibility and post-processing options that justify the premium price.
Improved image processing reduces noise at high ISO settings. The camera shoots full-resolution stills at up to 8 frames per second with sufficient buffer for extended bursts. Video includes 8K recording at up to 30fps, expanding appeal beyond still photographers.
Sony refined the autofocus system with more focus points and improved eye tracking. The electronic viewfinder refreshes at 240Hz for smoother panning and real-time exposure preview.
The camera maintains the compact body dimensions of previous models. Battery life remains consistent with Sony’s L-series batteries.
The a7R VI positions as one of the most expensive mirrorless cameras, targeting professional studios and serious enthusiasts. Availability began immediately following the May announcement.
