Sony has announced a fresh round of price increases for its PlayStation 5 lineup, marking the second hike in less than a year as the company grapples with rising component costs and broader economic strain.

The revised pricing, set to take effect from April 2, 2026, will apply across major markets, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe and Japan. Both the standard PlayStation 5 and its Digital Edition are seeing a $100 increase in the US, bringing their prices to $649.99 and $599.99 respectively.
The higher-end PS5 Pro model faces a steeper adjustment, with a $150 jump that pushes its price to $899.99. Sony is also raising the cost of its PlayStation Portal remote player, which will now retail at $249.99, up from $199.99.
The company pointed to sustained pressure in the global economy, particularly the cost of key components such as memory chips, as the primary driver behind the decision. Isabelle Tomatis, Sonyâs vice president of global marketing, said the move followed careful internal evaluation, even as the company acknowledged the impact on its user base.
Sony had already raised PS5 prices by $50 across models in August last year, making this latest adjustment notable both for its timing and scale. The cumulative effect underscores the challenges facing hardware manufacturers amid fluctuating production costs.
While India was not explicitly included in the announcement, industry observers expect local prices to follow the global trend, based on Sonyâs past approach to regional pricing. The company had increased Indian retail prices by around Rs 5,000 during the previous revision.
At present, the PS5 Digital Edition is priced at Rs 49,990 in India, while the standard disc version sells for Rs 54,990. The PS5 Pro has yet to be officially launched in the country, though its appearance on the Bureau of Indian Standards certification website has signalled that a release may be in preparation.
In other markets, the updated pricing reflects a similar upward shift. In the UK, the standard PS5 will cost ÂŖ569.99, with the Digital Edition at ÂŖ519.99 and the PS5 Pro at ÂŖ789.99. European pricing stands at âŦ649.99, âŦ599.99 and âŦ899.99 respectively, while in Japan the consoles are priced at 97,980 yen, 89,980 yen and 137,980 yen.

For now, Sonyâs pricing reset leaves little ambiguity about the direction of travel. The company appears to be adjusting firmly to cost realities, even as it risks testing the tolerance of a global gaming audience already familiar with rising hardware prices.
