Early images circulating online suggest Sony may be preparing one of its more noticeable design changes in recent years with the upcoming Xperia 1 VIII, though the company has yet to confirm any details.

The images, first surfaced through a protective case manufacturer and shared on Chinaâs Weibo platform, appear to show a device that departs from Sonyâs long-standing design language. Independent confirmation remains limited, and the authenticity of the renders cannot be verified. Still, they have gained some traction within the Xperia user community, with a prominent Vietnamese Facebook group administrator indicating the design may be close to the final product.
What stands out immediately is a reworked rear camera layout. Sony is expected to move away from its familiar elongated module in favor of a square housing. The module appears to retain a triple-lens setup alongside an LED flash, with the âZeiss T*â branding still visible, suggesting the continued partnership with the German optics firm.
On the front, the device shown in the leaked images removes the relatively thick top and bottom bezels that have been a defining feature of recent Xperia models. In their place, a punch-hole camera design is visible. This change also appears to coincide with the removal of front-facing stereo speakers, a notable shift given Sonyâs emphasis on multimedia features in its flagship lineup.
The display itself is said to return to a 21:9 aspect ratio, reversing the move to 19.5:9 seen in the previous generation. That choice, if confirmed, would align with Sonyâs earlier focus on cinematic viewing experiences, though it remains unclear how it will be received by users accustomed to more conventional screen formats.
Other elements appear more familiar. The 3.5 mm headphone jack is reportedly retained at the top, while the USB-C port and SIM tray sit at the bottom. A dedicated camera shutter button is again visible along the right side of the device.
Previous leaks have pointed to the inclusion of Qualcommâs Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and a 200-megapixel telephoto camera, though those details remain unconfirmed.
If Sony follows its recent launch pattern, the Xperia 1 VIII could be unveiled around June. Until then, the current images offer only an early glimpse, and, as with all pre-release material, they should be treated with caution.
