BSS, SANGSAD BHABAN: Treasury bench lawmaker Mohammed Nasim today proposed for introducing special incentives for the country’s lower class people, including tea garden workers, tanners and blacksmiths, marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

He also proposed for supplying electricity and water to the lower income people in the cities at the lowest cost on the occasion of the ‘Mujib Year’.

The veteran ruling party leader placed the proposals while taking part in the discussion on the thanksgiving motion on the President’s January 9 address to the House with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

Highlighting the government’s initiatives of preventing women and children repression through bringing the perpetrators to book, Nasim drew attention to the law minister for taking measures to complete the trial of women and children repression cases within quickest possible time and ensure punishment to the culprits.

About implementation of the Road Transport Act-2018 for ensuring safe road, Nasim urged the home minister to find out the people who are hindering the implementation of the law.

Noting that implementation of the Road Transport Act is a public demand, he urged the home minister to enforce the law as soon as possible to reduce the road accidents across the country.

Pointing that the loan defaulters are tarnishing the government’s success in the economic sector, Nasim drew attention to the finance minister for taking stern actions against them.

Referring to different global leaders who ruled their respective countries for a long time, the treasury bench lawmaker called upon all for giving Sheikh Hasina at least ten years more responding to the demand of the time and going beyond the opinion and political differences for the country’s development.

Political stability is needed for development of any nation, he said, adding, “We are going ahead under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the political stability is prevailing in the country”.

Criticizing BNP’s negative politics outside the parliament, Nasim said, “The BNP lawmakers speak in the House well. But their faces become different when they are outside of the parliament. I’m skeptical about them (BNP lawmakers) whether they are linked with the main BNP”. He also criticized Oikya Front convener and Gano Forum leader Dr Kamal Hossain for criticizing the government using ‘ filthy words like kick out’ and said an elderly citizen and respected personality like him (Dr Kamal) could have criticized the government using more decent words.

Awami League lawmakers Whip Md Atiur Rahman Atik, Shamsul Alam Dudu, Abul Kalam Azad, Khadizatul Anwar and Md Nazrul Islam Babu, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) lawmaker Gulam Mohammad Siraj and Jatiya Party lawmaker Pir Fazlur Rahman also took part in the discussion.

The lawmakers, taking part in the discussion, thanked the President for his time-befitting speech, saying that President Abdul Hamid in his 163-page speech has projected the government’s success in all sectors in the last 11 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and outlined the government’s future plans for transforming the country into a developed and prosperous one by 2041.

Highlighting the President’s speech on the celebration of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the lawmakers said celebration of Bangabandhu’s birth centenary will remain as a milestone in the country’s history.

Earlier, the lawmakers paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his sacrifice and contribution to establish an independent Bangladesh.

They also paid rich tributes to the national four leaders and martyrs of the 1975 carnage and the Language Movement.
