Starlink’s Global Reach and Restrictions

SpaceX, the space company of American entrepreneur and technologist Elon Musk, is providing satellite or artificial satellite-based internet services all over the world. This service, called Starlink, is providing wireless internet services to remote areas of the world. With just one antenna, internet service is available directly through satellite to homes or offices or remote mountains.

Starlink emphasizes strong data security and user privacy. Starlink emphasizes advanced encryption systems, strong network infrastructure, and user privacy to protect user data. Starlink’s internet service did not have coverage in Bangladesh for a long time. The current interim government is in contact with Starlink authorities to quickly bring Starlink’s internet service. That is why discussions about Starlink are now at a peak.

Omar Shehab, a theoretical quantum computer scientist at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center in the United States, told Prothom Alo from the United States that Bangladesh’s internet market is an open or free market. Starlink is planned to enter here.

Starlink will provide new opportunities instead of neighborhood-based internet services. The Bangladesh government can negotiate with Starlink or other satellite-based internet service providers to reduce the price of the service.

Remote areas of the country will come under the satellite-based internet service network. The government has to play an important role here in terms of price and customer service. Although the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Media Communication and Publication Wing was contacted several times on mobile phones to find out about this, no response was received.

Another Asian country, China, has so far banned Starlink within its territory. China itself is building its own satellite network as a countermeasure. There is no official use of Starlink in Russia. Although illegal use of Starlink was seen during the Ukraine-Russia war.

Russia sees Starlink as a potential security risk due to national security concerns. Starlink is not available in Iran and North Korea. In Brazil and Mexico, Starlink is able to provide satellite services only by ensuring compliance with national internet policies.
