Nintendo has confirmed that Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 are coming to the Nintendo Switch. The two classic titles will be released on October 2, 2025. They will be available as a combined physical edition and as digital downloads.
This marks part of Nintendo’s celebrations for Super Mario’s 40th anniversary. According to official updates, the games will feature boosted resolution, improved UI, and new control options. Switch 2 users will see support for up to 4K resolution.
Super Mario Galaxy Nintendo Switch Release Details
Nintendo revealed the announcement during its September 2025 Nintendo Direct. Company legend Shigeru Miyamoto introduced the games and also gave fans a glimpse of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, set to launch in spring 2026.
The new versions of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 will include extra content. This includes additional pages for Rosalina’s storybook, giving players fresh lore about the space princess. Both games will also add a music player and options for motion or button controls.
Retailers have listed the physical bundle for $69.99. Digital editions will be sold separately. According to Reuters, Nintendo expects the re-releases to attract both longtime fans and new players.
New Amiibo and Collectibles
Nintendo also confirmed new amiibo figures linked to the Galaxy games. The first shows Mario flying on a Warp Star, with a Luma chasing behind. The second shows Rosalina with her storybook and two Lumas.
Scanning Mario & Luma will unlock a Life Mushroom in-game. Scanning Rosalina & Lumas will give a 1-Up Mushroom. These amiibo will release on April 2, 2026, close to the movie launch.
Fans can also expect a hardcover print of Rosalina’s storybook. However, this will not include the new Switch-exclusive story pages.
Impact for Fans and Nintendo
The Galaxy series is widely regarded as one of the greatest in the Mario franchise. Players loved its gravity-defying mechanics and rare focus on story. With the Switch versions, Nintendo brings back these classics for a new generation.
The timing ties closely to the Super Mario Galaxy film. Many fans wonder if the new Rosalina content is connected to the movie’s plot. Nintendo has not shared details, but the crossover potential is strong.
Super Mario Galaxy Nintendo Switch release is set to be one of the biggest gaming moments of 2025. Fans can look forward to upgraded gameplay, new lore, and collectibles that celebrate the series’ legacy.
