Two people were killed in an Israeli ramming attack carried out by a suspected Palestinian assailant on Friday. The attack took place in northern Israel and spread across several locations. Police said a 68-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman died.

Israeli ramming attackThe incident also left a 16-year-old boy hurt. The suspect was later shot and detained near Afula. According to Reuters, the attack added new strain to an already tense security climate.

Israeli Ramming Attack Sparks Rapid Security Response

Police said the attacker first hit a man and a teen with a car in Beit Shean. The older victim died at the scene. The teen suffered injuries but survived.

The suspect then drove west and stabbed a young woman near Ein Harod. She later died in hospital. Officials said the suspect was a 37-year-old man from Qabatiya in the West Bank.

AP News reported that he had been staying inside Israel for several days. He was working without a permit. Police said he used his employer’s car to carry out the assault.

Israeli forces moved quickly after the attack. The suspect was shot by a civilian outside Afula. He was wounded and taken into custody.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz ordered the army to prepare an operation in the suspect’s hometown. He asked forces to act fast against anyone linked to the attack. Military officials said the move was aimed at preventing further violence.

Rising Unrest Fuels Fears of More Attacks

The Israeli ramming attack came one day after a separate incident involving an Israeli reservist. A video showed the reservist ramming a Palestinian man who was praying in the West Bank. The army dismissed the reservist and seized his weapon.

BBC News noted that tensions have climbed across the West Bank since October 2023. Violence by settlers has increased. Clashes between Israeli troops and Palestinian groups have also grown more deadly.

Health officials in Gaza say more than 70,600 people have died during Israeli operations since the start of the conflict. The growing unrest has created deep concern among aid groups and foreign governments.

Analysts warn that more lone attacks could occur. Security forces remain on high alert. The government says it will take strict steps to prevent more violence.
