League of Legends is getting a major overhaul for its Swiftplay mode. Riot Games announced sweeping changes for a January 2026 release. The updates target game pacing and jungle mechanics. The goal is to make Swiftplay a truly distinct and faster experience.

These changes address long-standing community feedback. According to Riot, the focus is on eliminating downtime and revitalizing the jungle role. The update is part of the new Season 1 Act 1: For Demacia.
Faster Game Pacing Eliminates Downtime
The game start is now 35 seconds faster. This removes lengthy grey screens and delays. Players can jump into action almost immediately.
Death timers have been significantly reduced. Combined with faster Homeguard movement, returning to lane is quicker. This change directly tackles the frustration of waiting.
The overall game flow feels more relentless. Downtime between fights is minimized. Every moment in a Swiftplay match should now feel impactful.
Jungle Mechanics Get a Complete Rework
The jungle role receives substantial buffs. Junglers will deal more damage with Smite. They will also earn more gold and experience from camps.
Jungle camps will spawn 35 seconds earlier. The Rift Scuttler also appears much sooner. This accelerates early game strategy and gank timers.
Jungle pets now deal 10% more damage. These changes aim to make the role more rewarding and influential. Riot hopes this rebalances the jungle’s impact on the fast-paced mode.
New Objectives Force Early Action
A new “Crystalline Overgrowth” mechanic acts as a universal tower-damage tool. This creates new avenues for strategic pushes. Teams must adapt their tower-taking strategies.
Outer turrets begin decaying at 11 minutes. They are fully decayed by the 15-minute mark. This forces teams to prioritize objectives early instead of passive farming.
Tower plate duration is extended to 60 minutes. This ensures structures remain relevant. The changes reward proactive, objective-focused play from the very start.
These Swiftplay changes aim to solidify the mode as League’s premier fast-paced experience. The 2026 overhaul focuses on constant action and strategic depth. It represents Riot’s biggest commitment to the mode since its launch.
