The new handset from TECNO arrived quietly but with a clear message about priorities: battery endurance and practical longevity. Announced on February 13 in Hong Kong, the POVA Curve 2 5G is now headed to India later this month and is also being shown to industry visitors at Mobile World Congress 2026.

Company officials confirmed the device will receive two major Android operating system upgrades, a detail that increasingly matters to buyers keeping phones longer than before.
Despite carrying the largest battery ever placed in a TECNO phone, the body remains unusually thin. The device measures 7.42mm and weighs 195 grams, figures that stand out given the 8000mAh capacity inside. The brand says the design draws inspiration from interstellar spacecraft, with a curved AMOLED panel and three finishes â Melting Silver, Storm Titanium and Mystic Purple.
Durability appears to be part of the pitch. The phone carries IP64 protection against dust and splashes and a 1.5-metre drop certification from SGS. The front glass is supplied by Corning under its Gorilla Glass 7i branding. The company also claims the device can function in temperatures ranging from minus 20 to 60 degrees Celsius.
Battery capacity is where the phone separates itself most clearly from its predecessor, increasing by 2500mAh. Charging is rated at 45 watts and includes bypass charging intended to limit heat during gaming sessions while plugged in. Certification from TÃV SÃD accompanies claims that the battery should maintain performance for up to six years.
Inside, the handset runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 7100 processor with 5G support. The display refreshes at 144Hz, a specification usually associated with gaming-focused devices, and the phone uses dual signal enhancement chipsets designed to stabilize connections in crowded network areas.
An unusual addition is offline communication support for voice, text and images at distances of up to 1.5 kilometres. The company did not elaborate on typical use cases but presented it as a backup communication feature.
The device runs HiOS 16 with a set of AI tools built into daily tasks. These include writing assistance, content summarization, call noise reduction and automatic photo adjustments. A feature called FlashMemo captures on-screen information instantly, while Mind Hub organizes saved notes and references.
Some tools are tailored for regional users, including AI-driven Muslim prayer reminders. The Ella assistant provides voice-based support across system functions.

For now, TECNO positions the phone as a balance between endurance and comfort rather than raw performance. The hardware choices reflect a familiar direction in the POVA line â fewer headline-grabbing specs, more focus on day-to-day use. The coming retail rollout will show whether that emphasis resonates beyond exhibition halls.
