A software engineer from Telangana has died in the United States. He was reportedly shot by police in California earlier this month. The victim was identified as 30-year-old Mohammed Nizamuddin.

He had been living in California after moving there for work. His family in Mahabubnagar said the incident followed a dispute with his roommate. They are now seeking government help to bring his body home.

    What Happened in California

According to his father, Mohammed Hasnuddin, the incident occurred on September 3. He said a friend informed him that Nizamuddin was shot by Santa Clara police. The exact reasons are still unclear.

Relatives said the dispute began with a quarrel over an air conditioner. Neighbors called the police after the fight escalated. Reports suggest that knives were involved.

When officers arrived, they asked the men to raise their hands. One complied but Nizamuddin did not, according to early accounts. Police then opened fire, striking him several times. His body is currently at a hospital in Santa Clara.

    Family’s Plea to Indian Government

Hasnuddin has written to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. He requested the Indian Embassy in Washington DC and the Consulate General in San Francisco to intervene. The family wants the remains to be flown back to Mahabubnagar.

The Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) party has also taken up the case. Its spokesperson Amjed Ullah Khan shared the father’s letter on social media. The family said they are still waiting for full details of what happened.

Relatives believe the shooting was hasty and lacked proper inquiry. They also requested the Telangana state government to provide support.

    Community Shock and Wider Impact

The news has shocked the local community in Telangana. Nizamuddin had gone to the US in 2016 for higher studies in Florida. He later joined a tech company and earned a promotion that took him to California.

His sudden death has raised concerns about the safety of Indian professionals abroad. Similar cases involving Indians in the US have been reported in recent years. Families say they face long waits and heavy costs to bring remains home.
