INTERNATIONAL DESK: People paid tribute to Khasi film actor Anjelus Enshon Lamare who passed away on March 6. Large number of people gathered at his Mawlai Phudmuri residence to pay respect to the departed soul.
Born on December 10, 1945, late Lamare was a founder member of Seng Biria U Khasi (SBUK). He acted more in films directed by Pradip Kurbah.
He also acted in many telefilms aired in Doordarshan. Ka Mon Bajwat, Hep, Onaatah and Iewduh are notable films in which he acted.
Educationist Sylvanus Lamare and folklorist Desmond Kharmawphlang, who were present at the residence of the departed soul on Tuesday, recalled his contribution.
“My uncle and Bah Enshon Lamare were born in Mawlai Phudmuri and they belong to Mawlai parish. He was also a singer and footballer and he even played against East Bengal . Besides being a humorist and actor, he was a good human being”, Lamare said.
Desmond said that a very significant contribution he made was in the field of performance. “Though the first Khasi feature film was Manik Raitong it had many deficiencies, but Ka Mon Bajwat transcended the limitations of Manik Raitong and his contribution as an actor in Ka Mon Bajwat is praise worthy. He was also also one of the actors of SBUK along with my father”, Desmond said.
“The passing away of Bah Enshon Lamare, a legendary Khasi actor, has left the film industry and his fans in deep sorrow. Lamare was known for his powerful performances and contribution to Khasi cinema. His dedication and hard work towards promoting Khasi culture through films made him an icon in the industry. His sudden demise is a great loss to the entire film fraternity and to the people of Meghalaya. However, his legacy will continue to inspire the generations to come.
