A former Trump administration official has revealed a telling moment from the 2024 operation against Iran. Secretary Pete Hegseth described the instant President Donald Trump authorized decisive airstrikes. The event unfolded at a secure command center.

Hegseth shared the anecdote publicly last week. He said the President’s casual command, “go get me my phone,” signaled a major shift in global posture. This moment preceded the public announcement of successful strikes on key Iranian nuclear sites.

Operation Targeted Deeply Buried Nuclear Facilities

The US military executed precision airstrikes in June. According to Bloomberg, the operation targeted three major Iranian nuclear sites. These included the heavily fortified Fordow facility, which is buried deep within a mountain.

The mission reportedly involved B-2 stealth bombers. These aircraft deployed massive 30,000-pound “bunker buster” bombs. The scale and secrecy of the operation highlighted its strategic importance. The strikes marked Washington’s first direct military action in the Iran-Israel conflict.

Pentagon officials confirmed the operation’s success. Hegseth stated it was the most complex and secretive mission in history. He said the action decimated Iran’s nuclear capabilities and created conditions for a ceasefire.

Iran Condemns US Involvement and Vows to Rebuild

Tehran responded with sharp criticism of US policy. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei set conditions for any future cooperation. He demanded Washington stop supporting Israel and end its regional interference.

According to Times of Israel reports, Khamenei called US cooperation impossible under current conditions. He described the United States as having an “arrogant nature.” His comments came during a meeting marking the anniversary of the 1979 US Embassy takeover.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian vowed to rebuild nuclear facilities. He promised they would return “with greater strength” but reiterated Iran does not seek nuclear weapons. The country maintains its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.

The “go get me my phone” moment now symbolizes a pivotal turn in Middle East relations. These Trump-ordered strikes have temporarily frozen Iran’s nuclear progress. The long-term stability of the region, however, remains delicately balanced.

What nuclear sites did the US target in Iran?

The strikes hit three major facilities. These included the deeply buried Fordow site, plus Natanz and Isfahan. All are central to Iran’s nuclear research and uranium enrichment programs.

What type of bombs were used in the operation?

The US Air Force deployed 30,000-pound “bunker buster” bombs. B-2 stealth bombers carried these massive weapons. They were designed to penetrate deeply buried targets.

How did Iran respond to the destruction of its facilities?

Iran’s leadership condemned the strikes and vowed to rebuild. President Pezeshkian promised the facilities would return with greater strength. He also reaffirmed that Iran is not seeking nuclear weapons.

What was the immediate outcome of these airstrikes?

The operation led to a ceasefire in the Iran-Israel conflict. It reportedly crippled Iran’s nuclear capabilities temporarily. The truce has held since June 24 following the destruction.

Why did the US get directly involved in the conflict?

Washington acted after Israel cited an “immediate existential threat.” The US intervention aimed to de-escalate regional tensions. It also sought to significantly degrade Iran’s nuclear advancement.
