Two Indian nationals were killed in two separate incidents in Canada this month. The victims were identified as Shivank Avasthi and Himanshi Khurana. Both cases occurred in Toronto and are under active investigation by local police. Authorities confirmed that the two deaths are not linked.

Indian nationals killed in CanadaThe Consulate General of India in Toronto said it is assisting the victims’ families. The cases have drawn attention due to the short time gap between them and the rising concerns among the Indian community in Canada.

Indian Nationals Killed in Canada: What Police Confirmed

Shivank Avasthi, a young Indian doctorate student, was shot dead near the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus. Police said the shooting took place in the Highland Creek Trail and Old Kingston Road area. According to Toronto Police, officers arrived after reports of gunfire and found Avasthi with a fatal wound.

He died at the scene. Police said the suspects fled before officers reached the area. The campus was briefly locked down for safety. According to Reuters, the investigation is ongoing, and officers are urging anyone with information to come forward.

In the earlier case, 30-year-old Indian woman Himanshi Khurana was found dead inside a residence near Strachan Avenue and Wellington Street West. Police first responded to a missing person call on December 19. Officers later discovered her body inside a home the next morning.

Police said the case was declared a homicide soon after. Investigators believe Khurana knew the suspect. A warrant for first-degree murder has been issued for 32-year-old Abdul Ghafoori. Police released his image and warned the public to avoid approaching him.

Why These Cases Matter to the Indian Community

Both killings have caused concern among Indian students and residents in Toronto. Many expressed fear as the cases happened within two weeks. While police say the deaths are separate, the timing has made the situation tense.

The Consulate General of India said it is offering support to Avasthi’s family and remains in touch with authorities. The mission also expressed grief over the loss of both victims. These incidents highlight safety concerns faced by international students in major Canadian cities.

Toronto Police continue to gather evidence. Investigators said more updates will be shared as the cases progress. The Indian community is hoping for quick action and justice for the victims.

These events show rising concern as two Indian nationals killed in Canada within days. Police are working on both cases, and officials say more updates will follow soon.
