ZOOMBANGLA DESK: The Embassy of Bangladesh, in collaboration with University Claustro de Sor Juana, inaugurated the “Sonar Bangla” painting exhibition on February 8 in Mexico City. Dean Carmen Beatriz Lopez Portillo Romano and renowned Painter Margarita Chacón Bache, along with distinguished guests, local dignitaries, students, and officials of the Claustro Museum, attended the event.
The ambassadors and diplomatic representatives from Serbia, Iraq, Venezuela, Spain, Slovakia, Sahrawi Republic, Qatar, India, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Honduras, Guatemala and the Dominican Republic also participated at the event. The exhibition showcases works from thirty talented Bangladeshi artists, including both emerging and established painters such as Kalidas Karmakar (Late), Dr. Fardia Zaman, Nisar Hossain, Rezaun Nabi, Mostafizul Haque, Ahmed Shamsuddoha, Sheikh Afzal Hossain, Mahfuzur Rahman, MD Muniruzzaman, MD Rashedul Huda Sharkar, Sanjib Das Apu, Rukshana Saida Akhtar “Poppy”, MD Zahir Hossain, Shamsul Alam Innan, Rubina Nargis, MD Zohir Uddin, Shahnaz Sultana, Refat Jahan Kanta, Mohammad Kamal Uddin, Sarah Tune, Rashed Sukhon, M M Maizuddin, Abul Kalam Shamsuddin, Abdus Shakoor Shah, Abdul Mannan, Abida Islam, Syed Abul Barq Alvi, Naima Haque, Mohammad Eunus, and Rakeeb Hassan.
Dean Carmen Beatriz Lopez Portillo Romano conveyed her deep appreciation to the Embassy of Bangladesh for its outstanding engagement and the invaluable contributions made by Bangladeshi artists. She underscored the pivotal role of cultural exchanges in nurturing the bond of friendship between Mexico and Bangladesh.
Ambassador Abida Islam extended her gratitude to University Claustro de Sor Juana and Gallery Chitrak of Dhaka, particularly its Executive Director, Md. Muniruzzaman, for their meticulous efforts in curating and transporting the artworks for the exhibition. She accentuated the significance of presenting a diverse range of Bangladeshi paintings, providing glimpses into the nation’s vibrant culture, folklore, and rural heritage, thereby encapsulating the essence of the nation. Following inaugural speeches, ambassadors and diplomatic representatives from various countries participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Guests enjoyed a guided tour of the exhibition by Margarita Chacón Bache, gaining deeper insights into the techniques of the paintings. The event concluded with a display of Bangladeshi cuisine, fostering discussions and connections for future cultural initiatives. The “Sonar Bangla” exhibition will remain open to the public at University Claustro de Sor Juana in Mexico City’s Historic Center until March 21.
