
INTERNATIONAL DESK: The UN Security Council on Monday called for establishing a new, united, inclusive and representative government through inclusive talks in Afghanistan with full women participation. It reaffirmed the need to ensure the Taliban or any other group did not aid terrorists on the territory of any other country.
After the meeting, Security Council members called for immediate cessation of hostilities. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres called on the international community to unite and use “all available instruments” to ensure Afghanistan was never again used as a safe haven for terrorists, telling the Security Council , “we cannot and must not” abandon its people.
The Security Council, under India’s presidency met for the second time in over a week on Afghanistan. Guterres urged the Taliban to exercise utmost restraint. He also called for end to violence, for the rights of Afghans to be respected and for Afghanistan to comply with all international agreements.
