The World Food Programme is launching a major climate initiative. The Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator (AFCIA) is now accepting applications. The focus for 2025 is on climate solutions for Asia.

Climate Innovation Accelerator

This programme targets Nepal, Pakistan, and the Philippines. It aims to scale local innovations that build climate resilience. The goal is to protect communities from extreme weather and hunger.

Substantial Funding and Support for Selected Innovators

Selected projects can receive significant financial backing. Each startup admitted to the sprint programme is eligible for up to $200,000. This funding is an equity-free grant.

The support extends far beyond just capital. Participants get nine months of intensive mentorship and training. They also gain access to WFP’s vast field operations for real-world testing. According to Reuters, such accelerator programmes are vital for scaling climate tech in vulnerable regions.

Building Resilience in Vulnerable Communities

The accelerator addresses urgent climate threats. Droughts, heatwaves, and floods are increasingly disrupting food systems. The programme seeks solutions that directly enhance local adaptability and resilience.

This initiative contributes directly to key global goals. It supports Sustainable Development Goal 2 for Zero Hunger and Goal 13 for Climate Action. By strengthening local capacities, it aims for long-term, sustainable impact.

This new funding round represents a critical investment in Asia’s climate adaptation future. The WFP Innovation Accelerator is actively seeking solutions that can transform food security. The application deadline for this substantial climate innovation accelerator opportunity is September 21, 2025.
