Coolkicks, the popular Los Angeles sneaker retailer loved by celebrities and sneaker fans, is under investigation after police raided its warehouse on Thursday, October 2.
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed it searched the company’s facility on Melrose Avenue in Santa Monica as part of a stolen goods investigation. During the raid, CEO and co-founder Adeel Shams was detained along with three other individuals.
Shams, who was livestreaming an online auction on WhatNot at the time, initially thought the incident might be a “swatting” prank. Police later arrested him on a felony charge of receiving known stolen property valued at more than $950.
He was released shortly after and is scheduled to appear in court on October 23, according to Los Angeles County booking records.
In a statement shared on Instagram, Coolkicks said the LAPD seized a small batch of Nike sneakers purchased within the previous 48 hours. The company stressed it had no reason to believe the products were stolen and said it has always operated in good faith.
Coolkicks also clarified that the investigation is not related to counterfeit goods, reaffirming its reputation for selling only authentic, high-quality sneakers.
“We are confident the truth will come out, and the trust we’ve built with our customers will remain strong,” the company said.
Known for its exclusive collections and strong community presence, Coolkicks expressed regret for any concern caused and promised to continue running its business with honesty and transparency.
