An Indian software engineer has died in the United States. Mohammed Nizamuddin, aged 30, was shot dead by police in Santa Clara, California. The incident happened earlier this month after a fight with his roommate. His family in India says they still do not know the full reason for the police firing.
The shocking death has left his parents in Mahabubnagar in deep grief. They have asked the Indian government to step in and help bring his body back home.
Cause of Death and What Led to the Shooting
Reports suggest the clash started with a small argument over an air conditioner. The quarrel turned violent and knives were allegedly involved. Neighbors then called the police to the scene.
When police arrived, they ordered both men to raise their hands. One followed the command but Nizamuddin reportedly did not. Officers then fired four shots, killing him on the spot.
His father, Mohammed Hasnuddin, said he only learned of his son’s death through friends. He wrote to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar asking for urgent help. He said the family has no clear answers on why police opened fire so quickly.
Family Appeals for Government Support
The family has appealed to both the central and Telangana state governments. They want help in bringing the body back to Mahabubnagar. Political leaders, including members of Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT), have also taken up the issue.
Amjed Ullah Khan, MBT spokesperson, shared the father’s letter online. He urged the Ministry of External Affairs to contact the Indian Embassy in Washington and the Consulate in San Francisco.
Relatives say the shooting was “extremely regrettable” and believe police acted without proper inquiry. They also say the family is still waiting for full information about what happened inside the apartment that night.
Shock in India and Concerns for Tech Workers Abroad
Nizamuddin had gone to the US in 2016 for higher education in Florida. After completing his master’s degree, he joined a tech company. A promotion later took him to California, where he was building his career.
His sudden death has shaken the Indian community. Many young professionals from India study or work in the US. Families now fear for their safety after similar incidents have made headlines in recent years.
Community leaders say the Indian government must take stronger steps to support families in such tragic cases. The process of sending back mortal remains is costly and stressful for relatives.
The Indian techie’s cause of death is now at the center of questions. His family is demanding clear answers and fast action. The shooting has once again raised concerns about the safety of Indian professionals in the US.
