Stanford University is now accepting applications for its Next Asia Policy Postdoctoral Fellowship. The program will run from 2026 to 2028. It is hosted by the Stanford Next Asia Policy Lab, or SNAPL.

The initiative aims to support early-career scholars focused on contemporary Asian policy issues. According to the official announcement, the application deadline is December 1, 2025.

Four Key Research Tracks Define the Fellowship Program

The fellowship offers four distinct research tracks for applicants. These are “Talent Flows and Development,” “Nationalism and Racism,” “U.S.-Asia Relations,” and “Democratic Crisis and Reform.” Scholars can apply for any of the tracks.

SNAPL has indicated a particular interest in applications for the “Nationalism and Racism” track. Each selected fellow will lead a collaborative research group on their theme. They will also support student programming and conduct their own research.

Substantial Support and Residency Requirements for Fellows

The fellowship provides significant financial and institutional backing. Each fellow will receive an annual salary of $80,000 plus benefits. The appointment is for two years, with a potential extension based on performance and funding.

Fellows must reside at the Stanford Center for the duration of their appointment. They will have access to Stanford’s research facilities. Participation in campus events at the Freeman Spogli Institute is also encouraged.

Eligibility and Application Process for Aspiring Scholars

The fellowship is open to scholars with a strong interest in interdisciplinary research. A focus on policy engagement in contemporary Asia is essential. The lab seeks candidates enthusiastic about collaborative work across different themes.

The application process requires several specific steps. Candidates must complete an online form and upload a letter of request and a full CV. Three letters of recommendation must be emailed directly to the program coordinator by the deadline.

The Stanford Next Asia Policy Postdoctoral Fellowship represents a major opportunity for emerging scholars. It provides crucial support for research that addresses pressing challenges in Asia. This initiative underscores Stanford’s commitment to advancing global policy understanding.
