Zimbabwe vs South Africa: Brevis Blitz Restarts Proteas Tri-Series Run

By Beauty NishaAugust 30, 20262 Mins Read

Zimbabwe vs South Africa ended with a seven-wicket win for the Proteas after Dewald Brevis struck an unbeaten 75 from 32 balls in the tri-series at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek. The International Cricket Council reported that the result put South Africa’s campaign back on track after an opening-day defeat by hosts Namibia.

Zimbabwe struggled to build a stable innings against South Africa’s disciplined attack. ICC’s match report said Ben Curran made 24 from 12 balls, while Brian Bennett’s 34 from 35 was the top score. Wickets repeatedly interrupted Zimbabwe’s progress, leaving the lower order with the responsibility of adding runs late in the innings.

Prenelan Subrayen dismissed Bennett and Ryan Burl, and Sikandar Raza made only 10 from 17 deliveries before being caught. The collapse left Zimbabwe at 94 for five in the 16th over and prevented the side from setting a total that could seriously test South Africa’s chase. The ICC report described the innings as lacking fluency despite brief attacking spells.

South Africa’s reply was shaped by Brevis’s power and speed. His unbeaten 75 came from 32 deliveries and gave the chase momentum after early pressure. The seven-wicket margin meant the Proteas reached the target comfortably, while Zimbabwe’s bowlers were unable to create a sustained second-half challenge.

The match was more than a routine scoreline for South Africa because it followed a loss to Namibia in the opening game. The recovery keeps the team in the tri-series conversation and gives the batting unit a confidence-building performance. Zimbabwe will need a more durable top-order platform in its next match. The confirmed facts are the result, Brevis’s unbeaten score and the campaign context recorded by the ICC; future qualification scenarios depend on later fixtures and should not be stated before the schedule is complete.

Brevis’s innings also gave the result its clearest individual storyline. An unbeaten score at that strike rate shortened the chase and reduced the time available for Zimbabwe to build pressure with the ball. The result therefore combines a bowling-led restriction in the first innings with a decisive contribution from South Africa’s middle order during the reply.
