Early glimpses of what is said to be a dummy model of Appleâs next flagship suggest the company may be taking a restrained approach to its upcoming design changes. The iPhone 18 Pro Max, expected later in 2026, appears to build on the existing form rather than depart from it.

One of the more visible adjustments concerns the rear camera module. The lenses are said to be slightly larger, increasing from roughly 16.15 millimetres to about 16.5 millimetres. While the difference is modest, such changes often hint at internal updates to sensors or related hardware. Apple, as is typical at this stage, has not confirmed any camera-related improvements.
Attention is also turning to the front of the device. The Dynamic Island, introduced in recent models, is reportedly being reduced in size. According to the available measurements, it could shrink by about a quarter, moving from around 20 millimetres wide to closer to 15 millimetres. A smaller cutout would leave more uninterrupted screen space, a change many users have quietly been waiting for.
There are also indications the phone may be marginally thicker than its predecessor. The difference, from approximately 13.13 millimetres to 13.78 millimetres, is unlikely to be noticeable in everyday use. Still, such a shift often reflects internal adjustments, possibly related to battery capacity or component layout, though no details have been confirmed.
Interestingly, the reported dummy model appears to fit into cases designed for the iPhone 17 Pro Max. That said, the slightly increased thickness and larger camera bump could create issues with tighter cases, suggesting compatibility may vary depending on design.
For now, much of what is circulating remains unverified. The broader picture that emerges is one of incremental refinement rather than sweeping change. There have been conflicting claims about more ambitious updates, including the possibility of under-display Face ID, but nothing in the current information points firmly in that direction.

With several months still to go before the expected September unveiling, the device remains firmly in the realm of early-stage leaks. What stands out at this point is not what has changed dramatically, but how much appears to be staying familiar.
