PS5 live TV channels are now available in the United States through a new free, ad-supported service. PlayStation says the feature launched on August 31 and can be opened from the console’s Media tab.

The company says the service offers more than 100 channels. The lineup includes content from partners such as Amazon MGM, Crunchyroll, FOX, NBCUniversal, the NFL Channel and UFC.
This is a media feature built into the console rather than a replacement for a cable subscription. Viewers will see advertising, and the available programming depends on the service and the user’s region.
PlayStation also says on-demand content is part of the launch. That gives owners a second way to browse beyond a conventional live schedule, although the exact mix can change as partners update their catalogues.
Users who want to try it should open the Media tab on a U.S. PS5 and look for the new live-TV option. Availability, account requirements and channel access should be checked on the console because the launch is region limited.
The feature puts entertainment beside games in the PS5 interface. It may appeal to households that already use the console as a streaming box, especially when a free channel lineup is enough for casual viewing between game sessions.
The launch also makes the PS5 more useful in a shared room. One person can play while another browses free programming, provided the console is connected and the account is in a supported U.S. region.
The service also changes the value equation for owners who use the PS5 as a living-room device. A free channel guide may be useful for short viewing sessions, while paid streaming apps remain separate choices. The launch announcement does not say that every channel is available in every country.
