Netflix‘s live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender returns for its second season on June 25, 2026, picking up Aang’s story as he begins learning Earthbending. The premiere date was confirmed as part of Netflix’s June 2026 content slate.

The first season, which launched in February 2024 to strong viewership numbers on the platform, broadly followed the original animated series’ opening arc. Season 2 is expected to adapt the second book, covering Aang’s training with Toph Beifong, the group’s time in Ba Sing Se, and Zuko’s continued internal conflict between redemption and loyalty to the Fire Nation.
Netflix has not published a full episode count for the second season. The platform’s standard for its larger live-action series suggests an eight to ten episode run, with all episodes releasing simultaneously at launch — consistent with Netflix’s standard format.
The live-action Avatar had a complicated road to production. An earlier attempt in partnership with original series creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino ended in 2020 when both showrunners departed over creative differences. The version that launched in 2024 was produced without their direct involvement, leading to mixed reactions from the existing fanbase while drawing new viewers unfamiliar with the animated original.
Season 2 will test whether Netflix can hold its audience through a second year — historically a challenge for live-action adaptations of beloved animated properties. Casting details for new characters including Toph have been the subject of considerable speculation ahead of the premiere.
Variety reported the June 25 date as part of its Netflix June 2026 preview coverage. For fans of the original animated series, the Earth Kingdom arc is widely considered the most complex and narratively rich of the three seasons, making Season 2 the adaptation’s most important test so far.
