The Costco Next marketplace closure has moved from online speculation to a service change that members can see for themselves. Recent reports from Fast Company and The Independent say the Costco Next storefronts became unavailable around the end of August. The reports do not describe a shutdown of Costco warehouses or its main online store.

Costco Next was a separate shopping channel that connected members with selected outside brands. Shoppers used the Costco site to reach partner storefronts, but the partner handled the sale, delivery and much of the after-sales process. That distinction matters now that the storefronts no longer open.
The practical question for members is not only where to shop next. It is also which company holds the order record, controls the return window and handles a warranty claim. Those details can differ from the rules for an item bought directly from Costco.com or at a warehouse.
Fast Company reported that the program had operated since 2017 and that the Costco page displayed a notice saying access to Costco Next storefronts was no longer available. The Independent separately reported the same service change, giving the closure more support than a single social-media post.
Anyone with an open order should save the confirmation email, invoice, tracking number and the partner company’s terms. A member should contact the seller named on the receipt before assuming Costco’s regular returns desk will handle the case.
The change also removes a route that let Costco members compare products from smaller or specialist brands through a familiar membership platform. Those vendors may still sell directly, but availability, pricing, shipping and support will now be controlled through their own channels if they continue trading.
Costco’s investor-relations page continues to list its regular warehouse and digital retail business, including August sales results and a fourth-quarter earnings event. That public information helps separate the Costco Next decision from the wider company’s ongoing retail operations.
For shoppers, the safest reading is simple: Costco Next is a partner-marketplace issue, not evidence that Costco itself has stopped selling online. Members should check the seller named in each past order and rely on current account or receipt information for returns and warranty support.
