DeepSeek V4 Launches Tomorrow, Adding Rival to AI Inference Market

By Tarek HasanJuly 22, 20262 Mins Read

Chinese AI company DeepSeek is releasing V4, its latest large language model, on July 24, adding another competitor to a crowded AI inference market already occupied by OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, and Meta.

DeepSeek has built its reputation on efficiency. Smaller models that run cheaper than competitors. More tokens processed per dollar. That approach is gaining traction in an era where AI companies are learning that raw capability matters less than cost-to-deploy.

Why DeepSeek Matters

Western AI companies compete on capability metrics published in research papers. DeepSeek competes on deployment cost. A model that gets to 90% of frontier capability for 50% of the cost wins real customers over the model that reaches 95% for twice the price.

V4 is expected to improve DeepSeek’s reasoning abilities and code generation compared to V3, while maintaining the efficiency advantage that defines the company’s strategy.

The Market Dynamic

Every new model release puts pressure on pricing. If DeepSeek V4 delivers solid reasoning at low cost, OpenAI and Google will have to defend their pricing through superior performance, faster inference, or better integrations.

None of those are permanent advantages. Eventually, someone will match on all three. The race isn’t about building the best model anymore. It’s about building the most efficient one that’s good enough.

Chinese AI Competition

DeepSeek’s rise reflects broader Chinese AI advancement. Western companies still lead on fundamental research. Chinese companies are winning on cost, efficiency, and speed-to-deployment. That’s becoming a more valuable combination.

Tomorrow, the inference market gets one more serious competitor.
