Several Bangladeshi companies have partnered with Starlink, the satellite internet service provider under SpaceX, to support the setup of ground earth stations in Bangladesh. These firms have signed agreements with the US-based telecommunications provider as part of a broader effort to bring high-speed internet to the country. A Starlink delegation is currently visiting Bangladesh to discuss collaboration opportunities and finalize implementation plans. Starlink Bangladesh is the near future we can hope.
The partnership focuses on space allocation, infrastructure development, and ongoing maintenance for the ground stations. In some cases, local firms are offering their own properties for the stations, while in others, Starlink is considering utilizing Hi-Tech Park properties for deployment. Specific locations and implementation details are still under discussion.
This collaboration is expected to deliver high-speed, uninterrupted internet to cities, remote areas, and coastal regions, with the added benefit of being resilient to power outages and natural disasters. The visit by Starlink’s team has also provided Bangladeshi companies with valuable insights into the company’s long-term interests and plans for the country.
With telecom-grade fiber networks still limited in many parts of Bangladesh, and remote regions grappling with frequent load shedding, Starlink’s arrival is poised to significantly enhance digital economic activities. Entrepreneurs, freelancers, NGOs, and SMEs are expected to benefit greatly from improved connectivity of Starlink Bangladesh, which will accelerate their daily operations and productivity.
The Bangladeshi government is working to finalize a structured implementation model for Starlink’s launch within 90 days. In a letter dated February 19, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus personally invited Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX, to visit Bangladesh and oversee the launch of Starlink services in the country.
Professor Yunus highlighted that Musk’s visit would provide an opportunity to engage with Bangladesh’s youth, who stand to benefit the most from this revolutionary technology. Youth members are hope for future Starlink Bangladesh. He has also appointed High Representative Khalilur Rahman to work closely with SpaceX and ensure that all necessary preparations are completed within the next 90 working days for Starlink’s official launch in Bangladesh.
