Zoombangla Desk : Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Manikganj-2, Momtaz Begum, has been arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) from Dhanmondi. She was taken into custody at around 11:45 PM on Monday, May 12.
The arrest was confirmed by Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of the Media and Public Relations Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
He stated that Momtaz Begum had been hiding in a house behind Star Kabab in Dhanmondi. She was arrested from there late at night.
Momtaz Begum faces multiple cases, including one for murder.
In the 12th National Parliamentary Election, Momtaz Begum was the Awami League-nominated candidate for the Manikganj-2 (Singair-Harirampur) constituency. However, she lost to independent candidate Dewan Zahid Ahmed Tulu, who is also a member of her own party.
Despite not being re-elected, she continued serving as the president of the Singair Upazila unit of the Awami League for many years.
Following her defeat in the election, Momtaz became largely absent from her local constituency and remained inactive in local Awami League politics.
