Staff Correspondent: Police from Khilkhet Police Station have arrested Mohammad Robin Hossain Rahat (47), General Secretary of the Awami League’s Nikunja-2 Tanpara Unit, from the Nikunja-2 area under Khilkhet Police Station in the capital. He was apprehended on Sunday (June 14) at approximately 7:00 PM.
According to police sources, Robin Hossain Rahat is the accused listed as No. 103 in FIR Case No. 04(08)24 filed with Khilkhet Police Station. He was arrested during a special operation conducted based on confidential information.

Robin Hossain Rahat is the son of Md. Abul Hossain Matabbar and the late Monowara Begum. He is a resident of K/2 Tanpara in Nikunja-2 and is locally known as the General Secretary of the Awami League’s Nikunja-2 Tanpara Unit.
Local residents and political sources said that Rahat’s father, Md. Abul Hossain Matabbar, serves as the Senior Vice President of Khilkhet Thana Awami League. He is also reportedly facing multiple criminal cases and is currently absconding. However, legal proceedings related to those cases are still ongoing.
Police officials stated that Robin Hossain Rahat had been under surveillance for some time as part of the ongoing investigation. Acting on specific intelligence, law enforcement officers conducted an operation on Sunday evening and arrested him. He was subsequently taken to Khilkhet Police Station, where the necessary legal procedures are being completed.
Speaking on the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khilkhet Police Station, Sohrab Al Hossain, said, “Mohammad Robin Hossain Rahat has been arrested as a named accused in a case filed with Khilkhet Police Station. Based on confidential information, a police team conducted an operation and detained him from the Nikunja-2 area. Legal action has been taken against him, and the investigation is ongoing. Further steps will be taken in accordance with court directives and existing laws.”
He further added, “Khilkhet Police Station continues its efforts to combat crime. Police action is taken based on evidence and legal grounds, not on an individual’s or group’s political identity. The law is equal for everyone, and no accused person will be allowed to remain beyond its reach.”
Local sources said news of Rahat’s arrest spread quickly throughout the area, sparking widespread discussion. The fact that multiple members of the same family are facing legal cases has also generated fresh debate within local political circles.
Khilkhet Police stated that legal action against other accused individuals in the case is ongoing. Authorities are collecting relevant evidence as part of the investigation, while efforts to arrest absconding suspects continue.
Police maintain that such operations will continue as part of their commitment to maintaining law and order and implementing court directives.
According to relevant sources, Robin Hossain Rahat will be produced before the court, where further legal proceedings will be carried out.
