Guinea Landfill Collapse Leaves 30 Dead After Heavy Rain

By Rithe RoseAugust 24, 20262 Mins Read

The reported development is recorded under the focus phrase Guinea landfill collapse. A landfill collapse in Guinea’s capital Conakry killed 30 people after heavy rain, government officials said. The incident happened on Sunday at the Dar Es Salam waste site, where rescue teams were still searching the area when the latest casualty figures were released.

Guinea’s government said six people suffered serious injuries and another 16 people sustained lighter injuries. Emergency workers were continuing rescue and recovery operations, while officials assessed the affected section of the landfill.

Residents in the area have faced dangers linked to unstable waste deposits and heavy seasonal rainfall. The collapse drew attention to the safety of the site as rescuers worked through material displaced by the landslide.

International news coverage from the Associated Press and Reuters described the disaster as a landfill landslide and reported the official figures. Authorities had not announced a final explanation for the collapse beyond the reported heavy rain and conditions at the site.

The current coverage gave the event a specific date and location, or identified the named organisation behind it. Where the reports described a proposal, estimate, scheduled launch or ongoing investigation, those limits remain part of the confirmed account and are not treated as a completed outcome.
