Huawei has confirmed it will unveil its Pura 90 series on April 20, ending weeks of steady speculation around the companyâs next flagship lineup. The announcement follows a wave of online leaks that had already pointed to an imminent launch, with early glimpses now aligning closely with the companyâs official direction.

Initial visuals suggest Huawei is taking a cautious approach to design this year. The rear layout appears largely unchanged from the previous generation, retaining the same triangular camera module positioned at the top left. The flat frame also remains, indicating continuity rather than a rethink of the deviceâs physical identity.
What has changed, however, is the finish. Huawei is reintroducing gradient color schemes, a design choice that once defined its flagship appeal. Among the new options, an orange and blue gradient stands out, marking a clear shift from the more restrained tones seen in recent releases. The move brings a sense of visual distinction without altering the underlying hardware design.
The camera system continues to be central to Huaweiâs pitch. The Pura 90 series is expected to include a range of lenses, including telephoto capabilities aimed at both close and distant zoom scenarios. The company is also integrating an updated XMAGE imaging system, which is positioned to improve post-capture processing and overall image composition.
Huawei has so far revealed two models in the lineup: the Pura 90 Pro and the Pura 90 Pro Max. There is no confirmation yet on whether an Ultra variant will be part of the series, a departure from last year when three models were introduced.
Internally, the devices are expected to run on a refined Kirin chipset, paired with HarmonyOS 6. Huawei has been steadily working on tightening the relationship between its in-house software and hardware, focusing on performance efficiency and smoother system-level operations. The company is also placing emphasis on on-device AI capabilities, though details remain limited at this stage.

The April 20 launch is expected to provide a clearer picture of how these elements come together in practice. For now, Huawei appears to be balancing continuity with selective updates, holding onto a familiar design while adjusting the experience around it.
