The Johnny Angel singer Shelley Fabares search is rising after the actor and singer, known for The Donna Reed Show and Coach, died at 82.

Fabares died Saturday in Los Angeles, her family said in a statement to the Associated Press. The family did not announce a cause of death. Her decades-long television career made her familiar to several generations of viewers, beginning with her work as a child actor.

She became widely known as Mary Stone on The Donna Reed Show, where she appeared regularly from 1958 through 1963. Her television work later included One Day at a Time and Coach, the sitcom in which she played Christine Armstrong opposite Craig T. Nelson.

Fabares also had a short but notable recording career. Her song “Johnny Angel” reached the top of the U.S. pop chart in 1962, and the Associated Press said she had two Top 40 hits. The success helped make the song a defining part of the public search phrase now associated with her death.

Her film credits included three movies with Elvis Presley: Girl Happy, Spinout and Clambake. The Washington Post’s obituary, also based on the AP report, said Fabares was remembered by family and friends as a source of love, strength, laughter and comfort. Her death marks the end of a career that moved between television, film and pop music.
