According to local sources, a portion of the road in front of House No. Kh–166 on Jamtala Road in Tanpara—allegedly owned by Nurur–Rafiq and associates—has recently been occupied to construct a boundary wall. Residents claim that the wall, measuring around 20 feet in length and extending more than one foot into the road, has narrowed the already tight section of Jamtala Road even further.

Locals say that the road near Jamtala intersection has long been one of the main thoroughfares for public movement in Tanpara. As the road is already quite narrow, rickshaw drivers have to be extremely cautious when two vehicles pass side by side. In such circumstances, the construction of a wall by occupying part of the road is likely to create obstacles for pedestrians and vehicles, while also increasing the risk of traffic congestion and accidents in the future.

It is learned that around 12:30 am on Friday night, several concerned residents of Tanpara rushed to the spot after receiving information from a reliable source. Upon arrival, they found that a boundary wall had been built on a portion of the road. However, no one involved in the construction work was found at the site at that time.

Later, attempts were made to contact the house owner through the gate to discuss the matter, but no response was received. Subsequently, the issue was reported to Khilkhet Police Station. Upon receiving the complaint, police visited the site, observed the situation and spoke with relevant individuals in an attempt to resolve the matter.

Residents claim that during discussions a verbal understanding was reached that no further construction work would continue. However, they allege that the remaining work of the wall was completed later during the night. According to them, the matter is clearly visible in photos and videos in their possession.

According to local residents, approximately 15,000 to 20,000 people use Jamtala Road every day. Students, office-goers, businesspeople and workers from various professions rely on this route for daily commuting. Therefore, the alleged encroachment and construction on the road have raised serious concerns among the public.

Locals have urged the authorities of Khilkhet Police Station as well as the relevant departments of Dhaka North City Corporation to investigate the matter and take prompt necessary action to protect public roads from illegal encroachment.
