The Mahakali search is surging in India after the film’s teaser introduced a conflict between Devas and Asuras and presented Akshaye Khanna as Shukracharya.

NDTV reported that the teaser revisits the Samudra Manthan and asks viewers to consider the story from the Asuras’ side. Instead of treating the mythology as a simple contest between good and evil, the preview raises questions about why the nectar of immortality and the claim to Indra’s throne were denied to the Asuras.
Khanna plays Shukracharya, the guru of the Asuras, and the teaser positions him as the voice of that grievance. The preview also introduces Raktabeej and hints at a threat extending beyond the supernatural conflict. A newborn child appearing at important moments adds another mystery that the film has not yet explained.
The Times of India reported that the 2-minute-53-second glimpse is titled “Shukracharya’s War Cry.” The cast also includes Bhoomi Shetty, Sriya Reddy, Rohit Saraf, Rakesh Bedi, Samuthirakani, Rajat Kapoor, Murali Sharma, Nassar and Prudhviraj.
Mahakali is part of the Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe, with Puja Aparna Kolluru directing. The teaser ends by announcing a January 8, 2027 theatrical release. That date, the cast and the Asura-centered framing are the clearest reasons for the current Mahakali interest, while the film’s full plot remains to be seen.
