Main Villain of the Spider: Silvermane Confirmed for Spider-Noir Series

By MD Arif MiaMarch 9, 20263 Mins Read

Main Villain of the Spider projects under Sony’s Spider-Verse banner has been revealed for the upcoming live-action series Spider-Noir. The character Silvermane will serve as the primary antagonist in the first season of the show, which is scheduled to premiere May 27 on Amazon Prime Video.

The crime boss role will be portrayed by Brendan Gleeson. The series is set in a darker, 1930s-inspired New York and follows a noir-style version of Spider-Man investigating organized crime in the city.

Silvermane emerges as the central threat in Spider-Noir

Early promotional material from the series has already revealed Silvermane’s appearance. The character is shown as an elderly but powerful mob leader sitting in a wheelchair and dressed in a classic three-piece suit, reinforcing the show’s organized crime setting.

Silvermane, also known in comics as Silvio Manfredi, originates from Marvel’s Spider-Man stories as a Sicilian crime boss who rises through the ranks of the Maggia criminal syndicate. Over time, he builds his own powerful crime family and becomes one of the most influential underworld figures opposing Spider-Man and other heroes.

The television adaptation places him at the center of the series’ conflict. His influence stretches across the criminal networks of New York, creating a direct challenge for the private detective version of Spider-Man who operates under the Spider-Noir identity.

The show also introduces other recognizable villains tied to Spider-Man lore. Characters such as Electro and Sandman are expected to appear in reimagined forms suited to the period setting. The narrative frames them within the criminal underworld rather than traditional superhero battles.

Sony expands its roster of Spider-Verse antagonists

Silvermane joins a growing list of major villains featured in Sony’s broader Spider-Verse storytelling. Earlier animated films introduced powerful adversaries such as Kingpin and The Spot, both of whom played central roles in the conflict surrounding Miles Morales.

In those stories, Kingpin attempted to manipulate the multiverse through a collider experiment. Later installments expanded the villain lineup further, bringing dimension-hopping threats and alternate versions of familiar characters.

The upcoming Spider-Noir series shifts the focus away from multiverse chaos and toward crime drama. The darker tone reflects the pulp-detective style associated with the Spider-Noir version of the character in comics.

The series features Nicolas Cage as the lead hero, alongside a supporting cast that includes Li Jun Li, Lamorne Morris, Brendan Gleeson, and Jack Huston. The storyline centers on a weary private investigator confronting corruption and organized crime in Depression-era New York.

With Silvermane positioned as the main villain of the Spider narrative in this project, the show adds another major antagonist to Sony’s expanding Spider-Verse world and sets the stage for a darker chapter in the franchise’s live-action storytelling.
