Marvel Rivals is leaning hard into the Avengers corner of the MCU this year, with a slate of limited-time events designed to mirror the franchise’s biggest films as the calendar moves toward Avengers: Doomsday in December.
The plan was revealed at the Marvel Rivals Assemble in-person event, where the development team showed off the game’s next roadmap. The presentation itself sounded almost like a visual tease more than a detailed briefing, with the roadmap described as essentially an image made up of the logos from every MCU Avengers movie.
The first of those tie-ins arrives in April, anchored to 2012’s The Avengers. It’s built around an asymmetrical 1v6 mode in which one player controls an Infinity Stone-powered Loki against a team of six heroes.
NetEase Games is framing it as a reference-heavy event. Loki will have a skin based on his movie costume, and his toolkit in the mode is said to include mind-control and illusion abilities. On the opposing side, players will also be able to summon the Hulk, explicitly positioned as a way to recreate moments associated with the film.
After April, the roadmap continues in two-month intervals. Marvel Rivals is set to run more “special events” and new modes in June tied to Avengers: Age of Ultron, in August tied to Avengers: Infinity War, and in October tied to Avengers: Endgame.
All of it is building toward December, when the game will mark Avengers: Doomsday’s arrival in theaters with additional new modes and events. With the Avengers focus now out in the open, the article notes that fans are already hoping characters like Thanos and Doctor Doom will be added to the roster by the end of the year.
One major Avengers villain has already made it in. Ultron, described as another nemesis of the team, joined the game back in Season 2.
The studio also used the moment to hint at what’s next in the shorter term. Season 7 is due to begin this month, and NetEase teased two new heroes as “a thief and an agent [who] are teaming up in New York for an impossible mission,” a line that has led fans to speculate about Black Cat and White Fox.
Marvel Rivals launched in December 2024 and, by this account, has come through its first year in solid shape. Now it’s entering 2026 in a more competitive mood, with a “revitalized Overwatch” also in the picture after a major update at the start of the year. For Marvel Rivals, the Avengers-themed roadmap reads like a clear attempt to keep players returning on a schedule, with each event meant to feel distinct rather than routine.
