Dhaka, July 15. S M Jahangir Hossain, Member of Parliament for Dhaka-18, has appointed his political secretary Monirul Islam Shohagh to the additional post of personal assistant. The appointment was made to bring more speed and order to government liaison, coordination, and official work connected to the MP’s office.
According to sources close to the office, Sohag has worked with Jahangir Hossain for nearly two decades. After Jahangir Hossain was elected to parliament, he named Sohag his political secretary. On July 2, 2026, his responsibilities were expanded to include the personal assistant role. The Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat issued an office order confirming the appointment yesterday, July 14, 2026.
Shohagh began his political career in student politics. He served as joint secretary of the greater Uttara Thana Chhatra Dal and as a member of the executive committee of Dhaka Metropolitan North Chhatra Dal. He later moved into mainstream BNP politics and served as joint convener of Uttara West Thana BNP.
Speaking on the new role, Sohag said all praise belongs to Allah. He expressed deep gratitude to Jahangir Hossain for placing repeated trust in him. He said his only wish is to honor that trust until his last day, and that he will carry out his duties with sincerity, honesty, and skill while working for the welfare of the people of Dhaka-18.
The office order is now in effect, and Sohag holds both the political secretary and personal assistant roles.
